Abstract

This paper represents the progress of a research project entitled "Use of time, care economy and health: paid and unpaid work experiences of professional women from the capital city of Santiago del Estero (2023-2024)", presented in a call for proposals from the Secretariat of Science and Technology (SeCYT) of the Catholic University of Santiago del Estero (UCSE). This project aims to explore the paid and unpaid work activity of professional women in the capital city of Santiago del Estero and the implications of these tasks on their health during the period between 2023 and 2024. In this sense, this study aims to summarize and analyze the scientific literature on the subject, starting with the question of the particularities of time use in male and female workers in Latin America. The results allow us to identify the time dedicated to work for the labor market, domestic and care work; to explore the meanings attributed to work and to analyze the implications that these tasks have for the integral health (physical, psychological, social, cultural) of workers. The relevance of this research lies not only in the deconstruction of androcentric categories to analyze the various forms and dimensions of the concept of time use, but also in the observation of a marked sexual division of labor, since it is women who most frequently assume the responsibility for unpaid domestic and care work
